In the prelude to KotB Trenton was eaten by orcs. It was an incredibly executed scene, drawn with gravatas that still haunts my memory. With the manner of his death I can only guess that this is a Reincarnation spell at work. They are lucky they didn't come out as a Blink Dog or Bear or something unable to speak and cast spells.
